If you didn't get to see, touch or speak with the members of the 4x400m men's relay gold medal team on Monday, during the celebrations you will get another opportunity this weekend. Rev. H. Lindy Russell, West GB Local Government and Friends of the CARIFTA have partnered to host a weekend of events for the Golden Knights and Team Bahamas, particularly the Grand Bahama contingent. According to Rev. Russell, activities will kick-off this evening at the Eight Mile Rock High Gym with a 'Meet and Greet' event, beginning at 5:00 p.m. He noted that many Grand Bahamians did not get the chance to see the athletes, "especially folks in Eight Mile Rock, so we want to give them an opportunity to do so." The four men Chris Brown, Demetrius Pinder, Michael Mathieu and Ramon Miller - will hopefully be spedning the weekend in West End at the Old Bahama Bay Resort, and on Saturday, they are expected to participate in a Back-to-School distribution for students in West End. Later in the evening, around 7:00 p.m. they will attened the farewell reception for Administrator Angela Pratt-Rolle, as well. Then on Sunday, the group is expected to join Rev. Russell at his church, Mt. Zion Bpatist, for worship service. "We want to honor the 4x400m, runners, especially Demetruis and Michael, who are from Grand Bahama," said Russell. "We want to also recognize Andre Williams, Raymond Higgs, Almara Jones and Donald Thomas." Russell added that coach Henry Rolle, will also be honored during the service, "not only for his contribution as a coach to the 4x400m men's team, but as a coach at Urban University. "He is a long standing member of the Mt. Zion congregation and we just want to show him our appreciation for all that he has done to assist young people, particularly those from The Bahamas and Grand Bahama." Worship service at Mt. Zion begins at 11:00 a.m. and Rev. Russell, invites the community to attend and show their appreciation to these young people. |
