Pinder and Curry to be honored at the falcons interhouse meet By Buster Laing Special To The FN
Tabernacle Baptist Academy Falcons will conclude their interhouse house sports today at the GB Sports Complex starting at 9:00 a.m. when former college standout Demetrius Pinder from Texas Tech and Asha Curry, Dickerson University will be honored at the meet. The Falcons junior team rallied from behind on the final day to capture their divisional titles at the 2011 GBSSAA Track and Field Championships, which were held for four days at the GB Sports Complex. In the GBSSAA Junior division championships, the Falcons tallied 392 points, winning the meet by 10.5 points over last year's champions Eight Mile Rock Blue Jays, who finished with 381 points, while Sister Mary Patricia Russell, the surprise school at the championships finished third with 367 points. "It feels great, our Under 13 & 15 age groups came through for us, we had runners in all the hurdle events and they also came through," said track coach Lucille Sherman of Tabernacle Baptist. "Our relay teams were outstanding and special thanks to Mr. Jeff Dakari and Ms. Whitney Armbrister who had been working with our relay teams for the past two weeks."
STARS TO WATCH The Falcons won three of the four under 15 age category relays starting with Destiny Miller who won her fourth and fifth gold medals after anchoring the under 15 girls, winning 4x100 meters (52.36) and who ran a superb second leg on the 4 x 400 meter team (4:19.58). Teammate Ladicia Hendfield also ran on both relay teams, capturing her third and fourth gold medals. The Under 15 boys also won the 4 x 100 in a time of 48.78 Led by Miller and Hendfield, the Falcons under 15 girls dominated their age category by scoring 167 points; the most in any division in high school, 86 points more than second place Bishop Michael Eldon. Tabernacle also was strong in the hurdles collecting two second place finishes from Treveze Lewis (under 15 boys 80 metre hurdles: 12.80), Destiny Middleton (under 15 girls 60 meters: 12.03) and a third place finish from Sarah Robinson in the under 15 girls 75 meter hurdles (13.76). The defending champs are Woodside House. |
