'Triple Threat' ready for action

BUSTER LAING

The Tabernacle Baptist Falcons Christian Academy is synonymous with winning basketball programs and producing great basketball players, but the Tabernacle Baptist Christian Academy girls' softball program wants to be in the forefront instead of the background, a topic of conversation and not an after thought.

As the Grand Bahama Secondary School Athletic Association Churchill Tener Knowles /Patrice Campbell High School 2012 Girls' Softball League season begins on Thursday, the Lady Falcons, defending champions in both the senior and junior girls, wants to let everybody know that last year wasn't a fluke.

They will tell you now and they will happily show you later – their message to all the doubters out there is 'Bring it on.'

The Falcons will be led by the 'triple threat' of Brashante Dareus, Altavia Hall and Kiarah Dames.

"Most of our players – both junior and senior players – play night league. We have two junior players, Altavia Dames and MVP Kiarah Dames, who are good enough to play senior division; but we will see how the chips fall and we will surely give you something to look forward to," said Junior girls' head coach Whitney Armbrister.

"We are always a great defensive team. We had a batting problem last year so we pride ourselves on defense. So as long as our defence is working our offence always comes around and if it doesn't, our defence is so good.

"We don't give the opposing teams any chance to score, we always have one strong batter to bring in runs for us."

Dareus, a 12th grader and is a returning senior from the championship senior team along with ninth grader Hall and eight grader Dames, last year's Junior Girls' Championships game Most Valuable Player, who both has junior status but are good enough (correction), great enough to play on the senior team.

The 'triple threat' are a threat on the field with their experience, knowledge of the game, power and defence.

The Freeport News went face-to-face with the trio off the field.
