The U.S. Embassy partners with 200 Ben & Jerry's volunteers to beautify two inner-city communities
Over at Woodcock Primary School, the excitement was in the air among the 400 students, staff and administrators. Volunteers spent the day installing the school's very first playground, painting bleachers and the interior and exterior of the school. The objective, to create an environment that would inspire the children to learn and encourage positive daily interaction.  Full Story

World renowned Bahamian musician returns home for concerts
Aside from music, Hepburn's background steeped in the nation's number one industry, and this he shared began in Freeport. "I have many relatives who are Grand Bahamians and I have fond memories of spending numerous summer holidays in Freeport," Hepburn commented. "GBPA granted me a scholarship in 1984, which allowed me the opportunity to attend Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Canada. After graduating with a Bachelor's of Business Administration degree in Marketing & Finance, I went on to work at the National Insurance Board (NIB). Within three years, I was promoted to Senior Inspector, one of the youngest ever promoted to that position at NIB," he continued.  Full Story
Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic School wins gold again in Spelling Bee
History has repeated itself as the Mary Star Stingrays have shone brightly in the nation's capital. This is the third time in five years the Mighty Sting-rays have won the Catholic Archdiocesan Spelling Bee. Local Sorority celebrates 99 years of excellence and service
In the spirit of the 22 Illustrious Founders and focusing on the Sorority's motto of being "called to serve and impacting communities," the members of the local chapter host programs such as the Domestic Violence Essay competition for high school students- to give students an opportunity to address this "silent killer" in our community, Diabetes Community Health Fair- to help educate the community about the disease that is ravaging our Bahamaland, and Reach for the Stars - a program that focuses on the most improved sixth grade student in each of Grand Bahama's primary schools. Painting of the drums...Davis' art students get an environmental awareness lesson
The project is spearheaded by Ministry of Tourism Manager for Visitor Experience Michael Jervis, who had the kids visit the Bahamas National Pride Association's headquarters on Fort Charlotte to paint the drums, which are placed around the island for people to use.  Full Story

When Pioneer's Way, a main thoroughfare of the island, was bare of any landscaping, Capron decided to beautify his area by planting beautiful shrubs and trees around and in front of his home.
