We've seen the Miss Grand Bahama Pagent, Miss Junior Grand Bahama, Miss Talented Grand Bahama, Miss Lucaya and Mrs Bahamas World, however the island is set to host another event to showcase beauty, brains and talent – Miss Plus Grand Bahama and Miss Teen Plus Grand Bahama.

The Miss Grand Bahama pageant organization released a teaser announcement about the upcoming event on Facebook saying "Coming soon ... Miss Grand Bahama Beauty pageant organization presents to you Miss Plus Grand Bahama & Miss Teen Plus Grand Bahama. All the plus size ladies of Grand Bahama between the ages of 16 & 25 get ready we need You!

"Who say big girls ain't got it? We about to show you, they do!"

In the past, there's been much criticism of pageants for only catering to slim, model-figured young women and for the market being over saturated.

In January of this year, TheBahamasWeekly.com ran a series of pageantry in the Bahamas and during the series, President of the Miss Bahamas Organiation Michelle Malcolm noted that opportunities abound for all participants in pageants, not just those who win and that it is up to the contestants to see those opportunities and embrace them, and as for benefits to the winner, her life will ultimately be changed.

"She instantly becomes an ambassador for her country, and she is held under the highest scrutiny. She is seen as a role model and is expected to always be at her best, no matter how she feels. She is expected to give back to the community and lead by example in this regard," she said.
