Act On His Command

Pastor Peter l. Evans &

Evangelist Shantell Evans

This week at Light House the social revolution of Christ's message continued with three spirit filled nights of evangelistic services under the theme "Act on His command," Luke 5:1-8. Apostle Bernard Walkine of True Vine Ministries, Bishop Washington Williams of New Canaan Zion Baptist and Prophet Raymond Gordon of Victory Life were three powerful vessels that God used to rock the house. They each dissected and delivered the word of God in a unique but profound and empowering way. The thread of their message emphasized how crucial it is for us as servants of the Lord Jesus to arise and act on His word. What is God saying to you today? Are you willing to be obedient and respond as He commands?

As we look throughout our communities today, we see that there is a bar or cyber café (number house) popping up almost everywhere. While these entities do present a significant contribution to the economic development of our people, their rapid presence does not speak fa-vourably to the spiritual growth of us as a people. Thus, I ask, why are we not as eagerly alarmed about the rapid expansion of bars and number houses as we are of churches? I've heard it said that more criticism and objection is presented against the opening of a new church as opposed to the establishment of a new bar or cyber café. One may ask, why is this so? Could it be that we have our priorities all set the wrong way? Is economic or social growth far more valuable to us than spiritual or moral growth? I pray not.

Sadly, the underlying de-sire of economic and social expansion of our people signal that we may be loosing our spiritual focus. This is somewhat validated by the fact that more and more of our people are choosing to embrace and support the opening of a bar and number house rather than God's house. We are more concerned about why more and more churches are opening rather than question why numerous bars and cyber cafés are opening.

At the ending of the year 2009, a spiritual shaking occurred in many ministries as God sought to reassign several of his servants to front line pastoral duties. It was more so like the changing of the guards. I must admit, I was once a skeptic about the influx of new ministries popping up, as well as questioned the need for them. However, after sitting under several prominent leaders I have grown to understand that the work of the kingdom is truly greater than any one personality. Hence, God in an endeavour to accomplish His magnificent will, often pulls out groups of individuals with fresh drive and eager anticipation to do his work. They in turn are set up and empowered to reach those that others could not reach.

In essence, God has called us all to be fishers of men. In His word he emphasized that the harvest is plenteous but the labourers are few. While we may be tempted to question what God is doing in this hour or directing us to do, this we must remain assured off, we are in a battle. Nevertheless, our warfare and weapons are not carnal but mighty through God for the pulling down of strongholds. Satan our adversary is seeking to destroy and uproot as many lives as he can. Our duty as believers is to unite and become vigilant in fasting and prayer that the saving grace of our Lord Jesus may be advanced and His Good News proclaimed to all. We must be willing to act on His command to achieve this.

Indeed, there may be leaders that are falling in the quest of kingdom building, nevertheless, we who are strong must bare up those who are weak. Our goal should never be to destroy or downcast a feeble or wounded solider.

If you feel the call of God on your life to launch out into the deep, I encourage you to do so. Don't allow your fears of the unknown to restrict or box you into a place of complacency or inadequacy in God. Put your fears and reservations aside and embrace His word. When you embrace his word it comes alive in you. It took my husband and I almost 12 years to embrace the Father's perfect will for our lives. Nonetheless, from the mo-ment we decided to go without a murmur, our lives have not been the same.

If your are hurting because of church hurt, discouraged and feeling like God has forgotten you, I want to declare this word from God to you today, He has not forgotten you, He knows and cares about your pain and your shame. He loves you with an everlasting love and there is nothing you could ever do that will change that.
