'God will take care of you!'

Monday Morning Meditation

Dr. J. Emmett Weir

Our scripture reading this bright Monday morning is from Psalms 121" I look to the hills! Where I will find help, it will come from the Lord, who created the heavens and the earth. The Lord is your Protector, and He won't go to sleep or let you stumble."

The Protector of Israel doesn't doze or ever get drowsy. The Lord is your Protector, there at your right side to shade you from the sun. You won't be harmed by the sun during the day or by the moon at night. The Lord will protect you and keep you safe from all dangers. The Lord will protect you now and always wherever you go." Psalm 121, Contemporary English Version.

It was very inspiring. The Bishop, clergy and congregation were gathered together in a large cathedral to render praise to God for His many blessings. As the service began, the whole congregation joined, joyously in singing that wonderful old hymn expressing confidence in God.

Be not dismayed what-e'er betide,

God will take care of you;

Beneath His wings of love abide,

God will take care of you.

God will take care of you!"

Thro' days of toil when heart doth fail,

God will take care of you When dangers fierce your path assail

God will take care of you.

All you may need He will provide

God will take care of you

Nothing you ask will be denied

God will take care of you.

No matter what may be the test

God will take care of you

Lean, weary one, upon His breast,

God will take care of you.

God will take care of you

Thro' every day, o'er all the way;

He will take care of you.

God will take care of you ....

Take care of you."

(Hymn 201 in Tabernacle Hymn No. 5)

As the huge congregation joined in the singing of this hymn, every member participated with great joy and confidence, culminating in a crescendo of praise! Yes, the men and women, boys and girls all sang with every fibre of their being, expressing their trust in God. Yes, the very singing of its inspiring verses brought to them the comforting and strengthening assurance of the Presence of the Lord with them and of the Protection of their loving Father, caring for every detail of the lives of people everywhere.

My dear friend, there can be no doubt that this Scripture and song of praise are most relevant to us at this time. For, we live at a time when people everywhere are greatly distressed, concerned, "stressed out" and distressed by the events which take place daily.

In the contrast of this situation, it is all too easy for us to become so worried and upset that we lose our grip on the things that really matter – love for others, concern for the needy, trust in God. Thus, at this time, more than ever we fail to remember that God, Our God Does Really Care For Us.

Our Scripture reading this morning assures us that God is our Protector, who watches over us even while we sleep in our WARM bed at night. It assures us that he also watches over us when we leave for work in the morning, on the job and when we return to our home in the evening. And the inspiring hymn, in which the congregation joined in worship of God, there is the assurance, THE BLESSED ASSURANCE THAT "GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU!"

Let us take seriously the lesson of our Scripture reading and hymn. Let us not give in to despair, lack of concern for others and lack of faith in God. Let us rather, continue to go about our daily responsibilities, confident that the God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, who has brought us thus far, will continue to be with us, enabling us to overcome the trials and tribulations, and to rejoice in the triumphs of this transitory life.

YES, it is true! "God Will Take Care of You!

This is a most strengthening and comforting thought as we face the challenges of this New Year.

Friend, continue "To Walk in the Light!"
