Teen succumbs after sustaining serious head injuries

A 19-year-old female succumbed to serious head injuries she sustained in late March, in relation to a grievous harm incident that reportedly occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28 in the area of Coral Road North.

Following the incident which took place in Grand Bahama, the youngster was airlifted to New Providence for further medical treatment.

The teenager passed away on Thursday, April 5 shortly after 9:00 p.m.

Initial reports revealed that police responded to a call Wednesday (the night of the incident) in relation to grievous harm.

The call came in around 9:15 that night.

While details were still sketchy up to press time, a source told The Freeport News that a 19-year-old girl was transported to the Rand Memorial Hospital by private vehicle.

Relatives reported to the hospital and gathered outside as they waited for word on her condition.

The girl's father became emotional and had to be comforted that night.

At last report, the teen was listed in serious condition and a 19-year-old male, who police say is assisting them in the investigation, is believed to be the girl's boyfriend.

While officers from the Central Detective Unit continue their investigation, the police are seeking the public's assistance with any information that would advance their probe.

The death has yet to be classified; however, officers are continuing their investigations into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the matter.

Again, police are appealing to persons who were in the area of Coral Road North on Wednesday March 28, 2012 where this incident allegedly occurred or have any additional information to assist in the investigations to call in at 350-3107/8, 352-9774/5 or 911.
