GB Business Outlook slated for February 22

A dynamic group of individuals are set to address the highly anticipated Grand Bahama Business Outlook slated for Thursday, February 22 at the Our Lucaya Convention Centre.

The theme for this year's outlook, which is in its ninth year, is "Grand Bahama: Outlook and Opportunities" and a number of distinguished speakers will speak on this topic and about the potential of the island.

Joan Albury, conference coordinator and president of The Counsellors Ltd., announced the names of the speakers at a press conference yesterday.

The keynote speaker will be Tourism Minister Obie Wilchcombe, who will speak on the theme and discuss in detail the outlook and opportunities for Grand Bahama as the government sees it.

Albury listed a gamut of other speakers who will address the annual event. They include: Don Demeritte, a member of the Bahamas Investment Authority (BIA); Kevin Seymour of PriceWaterhouse; Reg Smith, President of the Chamber of Commerce in Exuma; Janyne Hodder, newly-appointed President of the College of the Bahamas (COB); Zhivargo Laing, former Minister of Economic Development; Ina Harvey, a consultant from Barbados and Christopher Lowe, president of the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce.

The speakers will address a wide range of issues including entrepreneurship, the impact of global events on certain industries in Grand Bahama and the linkage between agriculture and tourism.

Lowe stressed the importance of the conference and its theme and described the conference as "very timely."

Lowe said the Grand Bahama Business Outlook was a significant event which could help to broaden the horizons of everyone who is in business in Grand Bahama.

"The Grand Bahama Business Outlook is an ideal situation to hear from a broad group of persons who have different perspectives and of course different perspectives are what stimulate thought, stimulate growth and stimulate investigation," said Lowe.

"Some of the topics are very interesting and diverse and would give a lot of food for thought."

CONFERENCE PLANS — Plans for the 9th Annual Grand Bahama Business Outlook were announced yesterday at the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) headquarters on the Mall Drive. Making the announcement was Mercynth Ferguson, GBCC office manager, Joan Albury, president of The Counsellor's Limited and Chris Lowe, president of the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce.
