Communicators and Pearls lead semifinal series

Diamond predictions are not looking good for the young BORCO Flames, who are competing in the Grand Bahama Amateur Softball Association (GBASA) ladies' fast pitch semifinals against the BTC Communi-cators.

The Communicators took a 1 - 0 lead in game one and were looking to continuing that winning streak on Friday at St. Paul's College Playing Field.

So when game two began Communicators' pitcher LaToya Humes bared down at centre diamond to pitch a 18 - 7 victory for her team.

The Flames were unable to collect themselves and the Communicators took full advantage. Diane Bain took the loss at the mound for the Flames.

Contributing for the Communicators were Daphne McKinney, who was two for five, with a double and three RBIs; Humes, who also recorded two for five, two RBIs and Cheyenne Bain with two for five and two RBIs.

In the next ladies' fast pitch semifinals meeting the Triple Play Pearls won over the Bahamasair Flyers 9 - 6.

In this series the Pearls lead 2 - 0. The Pearls want to meet up with the Communicators in the finals.

Lavern "Solid" Bain was centre diamond for the Pearls, while Beth Hall settled for the defeat.

Pearls' Monique Cooper was four for four, with a double and two RBIs and LaToya Thomas was three for five, with a double and two RBIs.

Flyers' Tara Evans was three for four, with a double and two RBIs.

Teams are looking forward to game three, especially the Flames and Flyers, who are battling to get at least one win.

Game three is scheduled for Wednesday, September 27 beginning at 7:30 p.m. with Borco Flames taking on the BTC Communicators, and then at 8:30 p.m. the Bahamasair Flyers will go up against the Triple Play Pearls.

Slow pitch teams also played on the weekend in games on Saturday.

The BLT Blazers won over the Kalik Panthers in men's slow pitch 16 - 9.

Craig "Hard Mouth" Wallace was credited with the win for the Blazers, while Robert Cooper was issued the loss.

Contributing for the Blazers were Renaldo Rolle who was three for three with a home run, a double and a single and team-mate Dereck Wells recorded three for three.

Panthers' Ricardo Lightbourn was three for three with a home run, a double and a single. Team-mate Charles Williams was two for two with a home run and a double.

Game two saw the Police Enforcers winning over Me N' U in co-ed action 16 - 1.

Craig "Hard Mouth" Wallace was again centre diamond and took the win. Anthony Fowler had to settle for the loss.

Racking up the stats was Enforcers' Godfrey Hall Jr., recording three for three for the books.

On Sunday games continued with the Police Enforcers again on the diamond defeating Winn Dixie Stackers 11 - 3.

Wallace again credited with the win. Jermaine Scavella was issued was the loss.

Enforcers' Craig Wallace was two for three, with a triple and a double. Stackers' Delano Williams was two for three, with a home run and a double and team-mate Eduardo Watkins was two for two.

The second game saw Coopers Destroyers winning over Me N' U in co-ed action 18 - 4.

The winning pitcher was Leon Cooper Sr., while Anthony Fowler was credited with the loss.

Destroyers' Jenson Cooper Sr. was three for three, with two home runs and a single and Leon Cooper Sr. was also three for three.

The Kalik Panthers won over the Winn Dixie Packers 23 - 3 in an exciting game three.

Leon Cooper Sr. was again issued the win. Jermaine Smith was defeated at the mound.

Panthers' Jenson Cooper Jr. was four for four, with two home runs, a double and a single, and Jenson Cooper Sr. was four for four with two home runs, a double and a single.

The GBASA will be taking All-Star men's and ladies fast pitch teams to Providenciales, The Turks and Caicos Islands to compete in their First Annual Providenciales Softball Tournament during the weekend of September 28 - October 1, 2006.

Things are heating up on the diamond!
