Police increase visibility, recover two firearms

Police on the island increased their visibility yesterday as Tr-affic officers conducted road checks along West Atlantic Drive and West Sunrise Highway.

At 9:15 a.m. Friday, officers began their checks during which time some 31 persons were cited for various traffic infractions, most notably persons not wearing seat belts.

Police are urging the public to buckle up and ensure that their vehicles are road-worthy.

Police advise that motorists refrain from using mobile phones while driving and avoid distractions, noting that an accident can occur in a matter of seconds.

In other police news officers are investigating an incident that led to the discovery of a shotgun in the North Bahamia area around 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 26.

Officers also successfully recovered a second handgun and ammunitions just hours later in the Freeport area.
