Two in court on stealing charges

Two Eight Mile Rock residents who were allegedly caught red-handed by police when officers responded to an alarm that was activated at Jet Wash had their day in court on Tuesday to answer to related charges.

Twenty-nine-year-old Marvin Outten and 30-year-old Kristan Ferguson, both of Jones Town, Eight Mile Rock, appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Helen Jones in Court 3 on three counts of shopbreaking and one count of stealing.

Police allege that the suspects were arrested at Jet Wash, downtown, on Saturday after they broke into the business establishment and were found hiding in one of the cars.

The two are also accused of gaining entry to the Musical Peacock located in the Merport Building sometime between 1:00 p.m. on March 6 and 8:50 a.m. on March 7, 2010.

The store operator reported to police that after the perpetrators entered the building through a western side door, they searched the facility and stole cash.

Outten and Ferguson are also accused of breaking into the Classy Bridal Store in the Merport Building, downtown, sometime between 1:00 p.m. on March 6 and 9:20 a.m. March 8, 2010 by removing the air conditioning unit from the wall.

Outten pleaded guilty to the shop breaking at Jet Wash, was convicted and ordered to pay compensation to Jet Wash in the amount of $1,500 or serve two years at Her Majesty's Prison.

He pleaded not guilty to the other matters and was denied bail on the remaining matters which were adjourned to August 17, 2010.

Ferguson also pleaded guilty Jet Wash shopbreaking, was convicted and sentenced to two years at Her Majesty's Prison and had his matter adjourned to the same date.

Additionally, Ferguson, who was in breach of his conditional discharge by the Magistrate Jones on another housebreaking matter, was given a nine-month sentence.

Jamaal Missick, 23, who was also given a conditional discharge along with Ferguson in the same matter, was also arraigned in the Eight Mile Rock Magistrates Court on March 5, 2010 on another housebreaking charge and sentenced to nine months.

In other court news, a Jamaican national, Deidert Baker, was charged with overstaying before Magistrate Andrew Forbes and pleaded guilty.

The 49-year-old was convicted, fined $3,000 and order to be deported.
