Texaco in Eight Mile Rock may be seeking new means of protection after the establishment was allegedly robbed over the weekend by its security guard, who attempted to steal a substantial amount of cash.

According to reports, sometime around 11:39 p.m. on Saturday, a 29-year old male security officer employed by Sharp Eye Security Firm, reported to police that 10 minutes earlier that same night he had been robbed.

He told officers that while attempting to deposit funds from the said service station into the night vault at Bank of The Bahamas in the Harbour West shopping centre, he was held up by two men, one armed with a handgun, who robbed him of the deposit envelope, containing Texaco funds, then fled on foot.

Officers from the Central Detective Unit were dispatched to investigate; however, while investigating,

ever, while investigating, the officer noticed a suspicious change in the demeanour of the security guard.

This resulted in a search of his vehicle, where officers found an envelope containing a large sum of cash, suspected of being the service station's funds.

The young man was subsequently arrested and taken into custody. He is expected to be formally charged today.

Meanwhile, police have removed one more firearm off the streets of Grand Bahama.

Reports revealed that at about 11:45 p.m. Friday, officers acting on information received went through a track road in the Wisteria subdivision, where they retrieved a Lorcin .380 semi-automatic pistol that was concealed underneath some discarded material.

The weapon is expected to be taken into New Providence for ballistic examination to determine if it has been used in any reported criminal matter.
