Bahamas Supermarkets Ltd. strengthens executive team

Bahamas Supermarkets Limited has announced the appointments of Owen Burrows, Sharece Murray and Mario Simmons to new positions with combined decision-making responsibility for groceries, general merchandise, dairy, meats, frozen foods and warehouse stock – nearly every item that contributes to the company's more than $132 million in sales annually.

The appointments – made over recent weeks – were announced as the company completed internal re-structuring to support increasing sales and market share.

"As Bahamas Supermarkets continues to increase market share and look to the future, it gives us great pleasure to announce the appointments of Mario Simmons, Sharece Murray and Owen Burrows, three professional Bahamians who have been named to key posts," said Bryan Knowles, CFAO.

"In each capacity, the decisions they make are critical in affecting customer and shareholder value and thus ensuring continuing employee benefits and satisfaction. In the re-structuring of our organisation to meet the needs we face going forward, it would be hard to overstate how important these positions are."

Burrows, who began as a packing assistant 17 years ago and has worked in almost every capacity in the company, most recently managing the store on Blue Hill Road, is now what the industry terms a Centre Store Specialist.

His focus is on grocery, dairy, frozen foods and general merchandise items as well as supporting managers and ensuring stores train associates to efficiently operate the company's 12 stores.

Murray, who spent eight years as a buyer, most of it for a hotel, before accepting the position and spending the better part of the past year in training, is serving as General Grocery, Stores & Warehouse Buyer.

Bahamian-born Simmons, who is returning from the U.S. where he worked with Winn-Dixie as Perishables Specialist assumes responsibility for meat, produce and deli departments.

Bahamas Supermarkets Limited operates 12 stores, nine under the City Market banner in New Providence and three Winn-Dixie stores in Grand Bahama.
