Grand Bahama's Joanna Evans will compete for gold in the womenâ s 800 meter freestyle final tonight in Veracruz, Mexico at the CAC games. The race is scheduled to begin at 7:56 p.m Mexico time (8:56 p.m here in the Bahamas)
The 800 meter freestyle has been one of Evansâ favorite races and expectations are high.
Evans won silver on day one of the races in the 400 meter freestyle final, recording a time of 4:16.82.
Evans, earlier this year captured a bronze medal for the Bahamas at the Youth Olympic Games held in Najing, China this past summer. In that race she was able to set a national record when she finished with a total time of 8:39.75. She also swam in the 400 meter freestyle in China where she finished fifth but set a national record with a time of 4:12.14.
Also swimming today will be Margaret Higgs, who will be competing in the womenâ s 200 meter Individual Medley at 9:08 a.m Mexico time (10:08 a.m Bahamas time). If she qualifies for the final she will look to medal at 7:11 p.m. Mexico time (8:11 p.m. Bahamas time).
Elvis Burrows will compete in the men's 100 meter freestyle at 9:19 a.m Mexico time (10:19 a.m Bahamas time). If he qualifies for the final he will compete later on at 8:11 p.m. Mexico time (9:11 p.m Bahamas time).
