by: Shayne Stubbs, Sports Reporter - Published Friday, April 6, 2017

Season eight of the Grand Bahama Flag Football League kicked off this past weekend and week one got off to a blazing start.

In the men’s division, the Ocean Motion Shipwreckers took no prisoners when they faced Coors Light Bears in the first game of the day. 38-0 was the final score, as the ‘Wreckers’ looked to open the season making a statement.

The Chances Alliance, last season’s runner-ups, got a 6-0 victory overt he Royal Bahamas Police Force Enforcers.

In the third men’s division game of the day, defending champion ‘Da’ Rock Boyz (formerly known as Bahama Rock Excavators) and the Freeport Container Port Stackers gave the league its first overtime tilt for the season.

Although the Stackers led the majority of the game, the reigning champions found their way back into the contest to eventually tie the game and win in OT, 20-19.

In the final game of the day, the Grand Cay Sharks and Buckeye Oilers played to a stalemate, 0-0.

On the ladies side, the Grand Central Liquors Lady Kickers took it to the Ultimate Crushettes. The Kickers fired on all cylinders and finished the Crushettes off 19-0.

Chances Lady Alliance shut-out the Lady Piranhas, 13-0 in the final women’s game of the day.

The season should begin to heat up even more this Sunday when week two kicks off.

The Bears will face the Oilers in the first tilt of the day at 2:00 p.m. The Sharks will be facing off against ‘Da’ Rock Boyz at the very same time.

Following those games will be the Stackers taking on the Alliance and the Kickers taking on the Piranhas with both games expected to begin at 3:20 p.m.

The Crushettes will take on defending women’s champion, the Sawyer’s Fresh Market Lady Enforcers at 4:00 p.m, as they will be fresh off a bye-week. Their season is expected to be in memory of their fallen teammate, Theresa Thompson-George, who lost her life this past weekend.

The Wreckers and RBPF Enforcers will take the field for the final game of the day at 6:00 p.m.
