It’s all set, said Dennis Curry yesterday, during the announcement of the Church of Ascension Golf Tournament scheduled for Saturday, July 5 at the Reef Golf Course.
Curry, tournament co-ordinator added that the event is set for a 9:00 a.m. shot-gun start and hopefully, everyone would have been registered the evening prior, July 4.
This year, he added, golfers will also have the opportunity to win a 2014 Hyundai, which was “graciously donated by Quality Auto for the hole-in-one.”
Curry explained that the vehicle will go to the golfer who makes the hole-in-one at the 17th hole.
“We will start on time ... so we are not only asking all golfers to come out and support this worthy event, we are also requesting that they come out on Friday between the hours of 12 noon and 9:00 p.m. to register at the Reef Golf Club
“We don’t want to be bombarded with registration on Saturday morning and then have to start the tournament later than 9:00 a.m.,” said Curry.
He explained that tournament registration fee is $70 and it is a medal tournament. The registration fee will afford the players - time on the course, trophies and lunch.
“So we are inviting all residents that play golf, especially members from other parishes, to come out and support the tournament.”
Curry noted participants will play in several divisions, including juniors, regulars, super-seniors and seniors. “Two trophies will be awarded in each division – first and second gross and, first and second net.
“We might also have something for the legends, 70 and over, in case players in that age group register, and for the ladies as well.
“So again we encourage avid golfers, those who play occasionally, those who are just beginning the game and those who just want to have fun to come out on Saturday and swing their clubs for a worthy cause.”
Curry said that proceeds from the tournament will go toward the church’s Outreach Programs.
Following the tournament, activities will move to the Church of Ascension where the presentation and lunch will take place.
Organizers of the event, including Ambrose Gouthro, Anthony Smith, Bernard Wilson; ACM president, Franklyn McCoy and ACM vice president, Danny Williams thanked the major sponsor for the tournament, New Image Beauty Supplies, for supporting the tournament.
They too encouraged golfers of all ages to come out, not only to compete on Saturday but to also fellowship and have fun.
