Organizers of the inaugural Bahamas Challenge Youth Baseball Tournament agreed, it was a success.
Coach Brian Hanna of the Grand Bahama contingent noted that it was a great weekend of baseball.
“The Grand Bahama Sports Complex came alive with so many young baseball players. It was unbelievable the level of play that took place between each team,” he added.
Some 500-plus players, coaches and parents, including those visiting, enjoyed four-days of baseball.
“I would like to thank all of the participating teams, particularly the teams from South Florida for being the pioneers of this event,”?said Hanna, noting that without their cooperation and willingness the event would not have been successful.
“To all the Bahamians, thank you from the bottom of my heart for coming together and making this event happen,”?he added.
Hanna thanked sponsors such as Corp-Law Court, Pelican Bay, Red Beard’s, Balearia, Bahamas Express, Shylock Edwards and Diamond Sports for donating the baseballs “... we could not have done it without you.
“It was great to see both Grand Bahama and Legacy pulling together to form one alliance for the weekend of competitive baseball.”
Hanna also thanked the Grand Bahama Amateur Softball Association for opening up their arms and giving organizers the facility for the weekend. “And to all the Grand Bahamians who made our guests feel like The Bahamas was their second home, I?say a special thank you.
“I am sure I forgot somebody on this list, but last and most of all I want to thank Mario Signorello for sharing in my vision to bring an International Baseball Tournament to this island.
“This was a tremendous amount of work, but gratifying and rewarding in the end for all the good we’ve accomplished,” Hanna added, disclosing that the Second Annual Bahamas Challenge is scheduled for August 10, 2014.
Organizers, he noted would like to add flag football and turn this into a Sports Festival.
Signorello, in a statement, thanked all the participating teams particularly the teams from South Florida.
He noted that their cooperation and willingness helped to make the tournament a history making event.
“To all the Grand Bahama people thank you from the bottom of my heart for coming together to make this event happen. Without the sponsors as Brian mentioned, this event would not have happened,” said Signorello.
