Family members and the community of Sea Grape and by extension, the entire Eight Mile Rock settlement are trying to come to grips with the sudden, gruesome passing of one its well-known and loved residents.
The quiet community was shaken, Tuesday evening when word that a female was stabbed and rushed to the trauma section of the Rand Memorial Hospital, quickly spread.
According to Insp. Terecita Pinder (PACO), police were called to the hospital shortly after 5:00 p.m., where Emergency Medical Services personnel brought in a 49-year-old female patient with stab wounds to the body.
The victim, whom this daily learned was longtime Sea Grape resident Margaret Smith, had succumbed to her injuries.
The Freeport News contacted Royal Bahamas Police Force Press Officer Insp. Terecita Pinder (PACO), who said she was unable to give official confirmation of the victim’s identity at the time and whether or not the death was the result of a murder; however, an Eight Mile Rock resident close to the deceased said that the victim was inside her home at the time she was stabbed and the scene looked as if the motive was a robbery.
“Several items were missing from the home, including a PS4 console and the games were also missing. A TV was on the bed as well,” she claimed.
One of the victim’s children reportedly discovered her inside the home.
Police have not confirmed if a suspect is in custody assisting with the investigation.
The first two murders of the year occurred just minutes into the second month of 2017, when Grand Bahama recorded its first and second homicides for the year.
The first day of February saw the tragic shooting deaths of two young men, believed to be close friends. The double murder victims were identified as Joseph Bain, 27, of Weddell Avenue and Stephen LaFrance, 25, of Hunters.
Police are continuing their investigations into this mater.
Meanwhile, the Freeport News can report that Supt. Wendell Deveaux, officer in charge of the Eight Mile Rock Division led a team of officers on a walkabout in Sea Grape, yesterday to gather information that may assist with the investigations.
