Govt partnering with colleges to invest millions in scholarships

The Bahamas Government is uniting with 10 colleges and universities to invest more than $5.5 million in scholarships over the next four years to cover the cost of the 2015 and 2016 Public School Scholarship Awards Program.

 

Monroe College and the Ministry of Education (MOE) are partnering to give over $1.9 million in scholarships.  Middle Tennessee State University and the MOE are partnering to give over $336,000.00 in scholarships.  

 

Florida Institute of Technology and the MOE are partnering to give $100,000.00 in scholarships.  Florida Polytechnic University and the MOE are partnering to give $144,000.00 in scholarships; Central State University and MOE are partnering to give $743,872 in scholarships and State University New York at Oswego and MOE are partnering to give $500,000 in scholarships.

  

Texas Southern University and the MOE are partnering to give $312,000.00 in scholarships; Taylor University, a private donor and the MOE are partnering to give $952,000.00 in scholarships; Holland College and the MOE are partnering to give $460,000.00 in scholarships, and Fanshawe College and the MOE are partnering to give $55,584.00 in scholarships.

 

The 57 scholarship recipients will be honored during the Public School Scholarship Award Ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on Monday July 25, 2016 at the Harry C. Moore Library and Information Centre of the College of The Bahamas.  

 

Other than the recipients and their family and friends, representatives from international colleges and universities will be in attendance as well as various Bahamian government officials, including Jerome K. Fitzgerald, Minister of Education, Science and Technology and various Members of Parliament.  

 

Donella Bodie, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education; Lionel Sands, Director of Education and Reginald Saunders, Administrator of the Scholarships and Educational Loan Division; Monique Hinsey, Educational Consultant, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and Senior Education Officials from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology will also be attending the ceremony.
