For nearly two decades, the Cacique Awards has publicly recognized the role played by those individuals and organizations whose performance or products have consistently made a positive impact on the quality and growth of the tourism product in the Bahamas.
Named in recognition of the first Bahamians, the Lucayans, the awards pay homage to their generous and hospitable nature, and is a nod to that tradition of hospitality which Bahamians continue to display.
Now, after 17 years, the prestigious award program has, as the name suggests, been the supreme influencer of all things tourism in The Bahamas with some of the industry’s best and brightest being honored in various categories.
Among this year’s nominees is Pelican Bay’s own Operations Manger, Della Bridgewater, who is one of two finalists to be recognized in the category of Human Resource Development and will be part of this year’s live broadcast to be held at the Baha Mar Convention Center on April 8, 2017.
A graduate of the Florida International University, Bridgewater joined the Pelican Bay family back in 2006 as a trainee and quickly worked her way up through the ranks serving in various posts, including HR Assistant, Accounts Receivable Clerk and Front Office Manager.
“Della started at Pelican Bay as a trainee, but quickly displayed an attitude and ability for taking on bigger and bigger roles,” explained General Manager Magnus Alnebeck. “She exemplifies what a manager in a modern hotel must be. Multi-tasking, streamlined, focused on what matters, keeping up with technology, and passionate about what she does, every day, 24/7” he said.
Since being promoted to the role of Operations Manager of the Pelican Bay Hotel, Bridgewater has met the challenges of modern day hotel management head on, assuming the responsibility of overseeing the day to day management of the property, its guests and amenities.
“I have always been passionate about the hospitality industry,” Bridgewater explained. “I’ve found that one of the most rewarding things you can do is be a part of creating an amazing travel experience for someone, whether it be a family, a couple or someone traveling for business; and I’m especially happy that I’ve been able to work at a property here at home that is truly committed to that ideal.”
Della’s commitment to ensuring a great visitor experience is one of many attributes which has made her an asset to the property. Under her capable management, Pelican Bay, though impacted by last year’s major hurricane has rebounded and despite its minor challenges has remained true to its brand as the Happiest Hotel on Grand Bahama Island.
Bridgewater and her team have set a standard of excellence which has received the praise and recognition of not just our guests but also the local and international community of hoteliers.
“To even be counted among this year’s amazing group of nominees is already a blessing” said Bridgewater, “there are so many hardworking professionals in the industry and it feels wonderful to be recognized for the work that we all continue to do, meet and exceed the expectations of our guests and visitors.”
