The Rotary Club of Lucaya donated $4,000 recently for textbooks to several local schools as part of their Annual Back-to-School Drive, during their weekly meeting.
On Tuesday, November 29 at the Ruby Swiss Restaurant, Billy Jane Ferguson, Community Service Director for the Rotary Club of Lucaya presented six schools with donations to assist with the purchase of textbooks.
“This year we decided to take a different route than in past years with our Back-to-School initiative. Instead of the usual pens, pencils and backpacks, we decided to donate textbooks. Once the students start school they need textbooks as part of their necessary supplies,” Ferguson said.
The Community Service Director stated that, “$2,000 was donated and the Club donated another $2,000 to match it. We presented Jack Hayward Senior High and St. George’s High School with $1,000 each, Sister Mary Patricia and Jack Hayward Junior Highs with $500 each; Hugh Campbell Primary also got a donation of $500. We will be providing East End Primary with eBooks soon, so they can continue a program we are in partnership with them on already.”
Ferguson shared that the Rotary Club of Lucaya is always “very excited to help our little darlings get the support they need.”
Ferguson thanked Bellevue Gifts for allowing the Rotary Club to obtain the 15 percent discount offered during their sale earlier in the school year. In addition, the Rotary Club of Lucaya, through Ferguson thanked Don Mitchell of UsTOO and Rico Smith of La Belle for their continuous donations and support of the Club’s annual Back-to-School initiative.
